hi all,
I hope there is someone here who can help me with this issue so I know where to look....I have a range rover sport 2.7lt 2006. due to a driving ban last year I put my truck in the garage for 12 months. Upon opening up and trying to start it I found that the battery was flat, therefor I got a big tractor battery around the same size and connected it up via jump leads.....I turned the key and something went pop ? a fuse perhaps ?.....if the donor battery was to powerful what have I blown ?.....there are no lights coming on when I turn the key now.....I have took the battery off to recharge it however I don't think its going to be as simple as that as the pop noise didn't sound right....can any1 tell me the damage I may have done and where I should focus my investigations first off.....thanks.....mick..

Welcome to the loony zone:) A big battery around the same size is not a good start for these things as they are temperamental with electrics. As freelance said check the main fuse and try your right battery after a good charge. My P38 stands for 9-10 months a year due to working away, even though I disconnect the battery each time it still looses just enough not to have a clean start. I use a battery assist jump pack on mine and it starts on the button. No help to you though but after checking the fuse use the right herbs and it should be good.

Go hunting for the main fuse, 60 amp or thereabouts

thanks lads, after charging whilst ive been in, coz if I go out ive taken it off charge for fire precautions... so its taken 3 days to get a green light on the batt charger to say its fully charged....the battery has been tested and its all good therefor ill get it on the truck in the next few days when I have chance and i'll look for the main fuse and hopefully.....with all the luck …...main fuse blown....replace....start up !....happy days.....did I say it was an overfinch ? would it matter ?

No problem, Overfinch shouldn't be a problem as far as I'm aware they don't bugger about to much with the electrics as they are bad enough as is. let us know how you go with the fuse and full battery. All the best mate.

hi there lads, an update....ive checked the engine fuse box and the yellow 60amp seems ok.....however, I do have a 10amp diesel EMS (PCV, VCV) that is blown ????….I aint got the battery to the car yet though but could that be what went pop d'ya fink ??

Only one way to find out. New fuse, battery on , and check.
Just as a heads up. This is the introduction forum, technical questions are best asked in the relevant model forum. In this case the Range Rover forum, where our resident D3 wizard, @gstuart , is likely to see it. As well as others.

hiya

ref those fuses, it’s always best to use a multimeter as they can sometimes blow but look ok

indeed Plse let us know how u get on

I LOOKED AT THAT AN WONDERED !......that noise was no 10amp fuse....to me....that sounded bigger.....like 100...so another plan of attack.... nice one

no worries as indeed would have to be a big fuse , if it’s blown when u take it out it will feel like it’s broken , not like a ridged fuse should be

but still put a multimeter across it to be 100% , as at least then u know for sure if it’s blown or not

if I remember it’s a purple colour

hope that helps
