Good morning!!

So as of late my 1999 2.0Di Freelander is suffering from a small issue...
Its doesnt happend all the time, and i realy have no clue why it happends like so.

I turn the key, but the usual lights on the dashboard dont light up. The only light that does turn on (but very dimly) is the AC button light. Radio Works, exterior lights (cruising, turning signals, brake light, etc) work fine.
I try to turn on the car, it crancks over strong but no start. :(
I remove the key, insert it again, turn the key and then the usual lights do turn on, cranck and it starts just fine.
I go about my business, the motor pulls strong, no stuttering, no struggle to rev up, it goes perfectly as always.

Any ideas?

I imagine you have an issue with the comms from the CCU. When you have the problem it looks like its not sending the right messages to the dash and probably not sending the security codes to the engine's ECU.

If I'm right its either a wiring issue or maybe an intermittent fault with the CCU itself. First thing would be to make sure all the connections to the CCU are clean and pushed in correctly. The CCU and ECU are coded together as "matching pairs", you could try putting a replacement pair in to see if that sorts it - you'd also need the fobs that are coded to the CCU. Ideally you could loan/borrow the bits to see if it is the problem.

How frequently does it fail? Has it been getting worse?

Others may have other suggestions.

I happends randomly.
I'll guive your sugestions a try this next weekend and see if it solves the issue.
Cheers Grumpygel!

So i gave your sugestion a go. I gave the conector a push and it did moved inwards a tiny bit, lets see if that'll solve the problem. All i got to do now is wait and see if it worked.
