I have a question for all you die hard landrover experts.
A friend of mine has a 110 county fitted with a 4bd 3.9 litre Isuzu engine. This land rover was bought by his father brand new direct from land rover in Australia it is not a conversion, after his death it was shipped from australia to the UK. The story goes that the Australian army needed more power from a landrover than was available at the time and land rover were going to lose the order so they fitted Isuzu engines at the land rover factory. It does not have a conversion plate on the bell housing everything is factory designed.
Could anyone tell me if this is a common landrover and if so where it would be possible to source parts.
My friend is in need of a new sump as his is now wearing thin and I am sure he would be keen to source any other parts available.

best answer would be post on AULRO , as they are fairly common out there, relatively speaking as most big diesel buyers bought the LC or nissan but still more of them than here in UK . A few were taken out as they tended to kill gearboxes and were a bit front heavy on sand . HTSH

The Australian Military used Land Rover's, called the Peregrine I think, these vehicles were fitted as standard with non standard engines, for more power. So I would say yes, for are they common, just not in the UK.

I agree , plenty still used in oz for bush patrols on the Northern territory for one thing.

common there not so common here but they were factory, just no our factory :D

The project that Aus def forces produced the 4db engined rovers was Perentie , they were also wider and 6wd and leaf spring rear on 6wd. they used lt95 gearbox .HTSH
