Now I've been using this forum for a bit I become very sceptical when I see fenders that are called series ....

The vehicle details for SSK 247 are:
Date of Liability 01 06 2014
Date of First Registration 20 04 1961
Year of Manufacture 1961
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 3500cc
CO₂ Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type PETROL
Export Marker N
Vehicle Status Licence Not Due
Vehicle Colour PURPLE
Vehicle Type Approval Not Available

The only correct thing on those details are that it runs on petrol, even the colour is wrong ffs.

hold your horses boys n girls..... its a series by the looks of things although a 3 not a 2......

look at the z bar on the front steering suggests its a leafer with a spring over axle conversion

dash and bulkhead are series 3 as is rear tub

has a series gearbox.. did nobody spot the red n yellow levers??

axles are narrow ... ie a series .. hence the banded super wide wheels to fill the arches... a fender wouldn't need the wheels as axles are wider...

its only dodgy as its more series 3 than 2.... windscreen, front wings n bonnet n doors are all a straight swap

its even still got standard series steering box......

cheers steve

Fender body fender axles, poss 4l v8 from a LR, not much of that is a series

series body (rear n bulkhead)

series axles hence the need for wide wheels cos its narrow n fitted with freewheeling hubs (no point on a fender axle)

series gearbox

series springs

series chassis

series tank

series dash

series filler

and standard series steering box....

in fact very little ISN'T series...

cheers steve

in fact if people looked at the pic of the 8 spoke wheel its as clear as day its a leafer??? and im fairly certain with my limited knowledge that fenders sit on coily springy things??? :)

cheers steve

pretty certain you lot jumped way to quick the only thing non series is the doors, the windscreen and a few other bits seats most likely, the bulkhead is series as is the full rear tub gearbox its hard to find parts that don't belong to either a series 2 or 3 so give the guy a break its no ringer

yep its amazing how fast the bandwagon fills up with sheep with an 'expert opinion' instead of actually looking at whats clearly there and having an individual view.... :) 10 slating comments in under an hour but nothing since the glaring oversights were pointed out

cheers steve

In your own words "its a series by the looks of things although a 3 not a 2......"

So as you say it's mostly a series 3, with the engine out of something else and the body off a defender.

I still say it ain't kosher in one way or another.

looks like a decent project ,many thousands of which must have been built over the years as long as parts arent stolen and anyone buying used parts runs that risk ,probably more kosher than dr evils build

Doc is not Jewish, so why does he need Kosher:confused:

my own words are quite correct, series 3 bulkhead, dash, heater, handbrake etc...

however I didn't join the burn the heretic rant about it being a fender or otherwise

cant tell if the axles are 2 or 3 in the pics but there is nothing at all to suggest it isn't totally legal, as long as rebuilt pre 96 its fine

slating the seller, claiming its mostly fender and saying prob someone elses pride n joy and stolen just because it has a few fender panels????

jumping on a bandwagon without looking at evidence (in many of the posts) reveals mass hysteria with a deep psychological need to feel part of a group and agree at all costs without looking at the evidence...

as monty python said.... 'burn her shes a witch' :)
