Its a 40yr rolling exemption so it might be just on the cusp of being exempt, or it is.. ;)

Have to check with the DVLA.

As he was looking what they go for now and as it needs a bit of welding but not seen yes ( customer he goes to ) he has offered 5k but the owner has said its to much and knoes its needs work so if its worth getting my bro will get it 🙂

Nice to meet an honest bloke, rare these days, and yes 5k does sound a lot for one needing work.

As far as I know, if it was built in 1983 it can be changed to be tax exempt after the start of the 2024 Tax year. He will have a bit of time to do the work before 6th April 2024.

I assume the current tax rate would be £325 per year for a Pre-2001 vehicle with an engine over 1.5l

From the UK Gov site:

If your vehicle was built before 1 January 1983, you can stop paying vehicle tax from 1 April 2023.

If you do not know when your vehicle was built, but it was registered before 8 January 1983, you do not need to pay vehicle tax from 1 April 2023.

beat me to it. that was my understanding as well. i did my '82 sereis 3 at the start of this year for the same reason. It is the january after it becomes 40 years old that you can apply for exemption.
