Hi,

I am a long time Land Rover owner/driver. Learned to drive back in the 80s in a tatty `series 2A. Had a number of Defenders and a Disco over the years but recently getting back to basics.

Proud owner of an 80” Series 1 which was a long held dream. She is very clean and tidy but more recently a rolling project under the bonnet...

Prompted to join here as I have just started the restoration of my other dream, a 1983 3 door Range Rover Classic. Right now I am in the “where are the problems?” phase. Pleased to say she is in better condition than I hoped for when I took delivery (I think). Electrics are stuffed, rotten tailgate (no surprise there), inner wings rotten, engine (I hope) can be tweaked back into shape. Chassis and transmission seem good. Not all bad for a risky flea bay purchase :)

Hopefully I can find lots of inspiration and plenty of answers to questions that will doubtless arise.

Nice toy collection! I’m sure so speak for everyone when I say the more pics the better, would be great to see a project thread.

Thank you. Will start the project thread for the Classic shortly. Feel a bit of a cheat as not exactly a barn wreck but more than enough for my limited capabilities!

Who cares, it looks like a great project and I don’t suppose there’s loads of them about. There’s certainly much less interesting rubbish in here, some of it my responsibility!

Having just looked at your 6x6 thread I think you are doing yourself down. I am in awe!

Definitely nothing to do with me that!!

I have a D1 that needs either welding or selling or welding then selling and a D2 that I’m hoping to promote from toy to every day car once it’s had a bit of a going over. That 6x6 thread is someone else’s project, not sure why it would have my name on it.

My bad. Clearly need to learn how to navigate the forum as well as tart up a Range Rover :)

Both the S1 and Rangie are great!
I know which one I’d prefer (hint.....it ain’t got a roof!!) but looking forward to the RR progress!

Welcome.
Love them motors.keep the photos coming
You running 600x16 on the S1?
How do you find that tread in the wet/noise?

Thank you. I am indeed running 6-00x16. Happy with them in the wet (with that wiper she is not my go to vehicle if it is likely to be sheeting down), does what she is meant to do in the mud. Noise is horrible but nearly drowned out by engine noise and gearbox whine.

Very very jealous of that 80.

Isn't Hedgehopper an ale?

The 80 is designed to make you smile every time you drive her, for about the first 20-30 minutes. After that, wincing with pain becomes the default setting.

Hedge Hopper is an ale (from Staffordshire if memory serves me). However, It is a handle that I have used for years going back to my more athletic steeplechasing days.

It's making me smile looking at it. I'd love an early series 1. My 2a cheers me up when i open the door to go to work and see it sitting on the drive. You've got a lovely 80 there.

Ah, got you, I was sure i had seen Hedgehopper before in a pub.
