My 1999 4.6 HSE has an intermittent rattle/knocking/vibration that is felt rather than heard through the drivers side floor. It happens on a long journey after about 100 miles. It is irregular and seems to be related to bumps in the road. it is not a large knocking that a loose exhaust would cause.
THere is also a distinct regular ticking/chugging which increases in frequency relative to the road speed, that can be heard when pulling away (only heard with the windows open, cannot be heard over 30MPH due to wind noise). I can only assume this is from the drivetrain as the engine is smoothe when revved in Neutral.
Has anyone encoutered this before ? would like some idea where to start before the embaraasing process getting a mechanic to "hear" these noises, and him thinking I am comletely insane..
