Hi all,
First post for a few months, the old girl is has been fault free and i'm enjoying the experience. (Yes I know, shouldn't lead with my chin).
The interior of my 4.6 HSE is in very good condition with the exception of the plastics around the switches and centre console which look a bit tatty.
I have looked for the veneered parts but they are silly money and cost half as much as the car is worth so, not an option for me. (Tightwad).
I thought about painting them to give a Piano Black finish along with the veneered inserts on the dash and doors. Has anyone tried this or anything similar and has photo's ?
It would be nice to see how it looks before I steam in and F**k it up. ;)

You can buy stick on Veneer from eBay for almost every thing doesn't look to bad either from what I have seen

I used black plastic bumper paint on my black plastic interior trim. Looks great and so far no problems...

Thanks Nic, any photo's ?
How did it look when done ?

No, but when my wife next lets me drive MY car, I'll try and take one! :) What I was doing was the window switch pack. It was really badly scratched. I took it off, removed the switches, sanded it with fine sand paper and gave it 4 coats of bumper paint. It looks brand new. There's no reason why it wouldn't work on the other black trim assuming you can remove it ok - and it was only a fiver for a can. Tell you what, I'll nip out now in the dark with the camera and try and take one...

Edit: right, there you go. But... remember it was scratched to buggery!

Nik

Many thanks Nic
Looks really good mate, Hmm, Me getting itchy fingers now as well.
Recon I will try high Gloss Black finish.

The buttons are gloss I suppose, so it would match nicely. And anyway, if it didn't, you can just go over it again with mat or satin can't you?

Sure there was a thread not so long ago, where some one had painted the walnut bits on the dash in high gloss black, looked really good , the linley edition had piano black wood all around the interior, and some of the limited editions had a green coloured wood

So do I, especially as mine is black on the outside too. Would think you'd need a professional spray job to make it look that good tho, looks like several coats sanded and laquered....

Agreed Rob.
Bet it's a right bitch to keep clean, finger marks / dust etc, but it does look real class.
Will try the rear ash tray first and see how it turns out.
Will be stripping the dash down next week as I have to replace the heater core O rings so, ideal time to remove all the necessary trim. ;)

On a similar subject , anyone know if there is a paint option for the plastic trim at the right hand side of the drivers seat on the L322? With the obvious in and out of the veh there are little bits starting to come off and I want to make it look better.

I recently replied to thread with similar theme http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/trim-plastics-colouring-199664.html

Some of my wood veneer is missing so I was going to use vinyl wrap. You can get wood veneer look, brushed aluminum, carbon fibre, various colours including gloss black etc. I've just ordered a sample pack of Fleebay:- 3M Di-Noc Carbon Fibre Vinyl Sample 10 Pieces 5cm x 5cm | eBay

Also, my leather on the edge of the seat is slightly worn. I am about to redo with a leather re-colour kit from: www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/Leather_Colourant_Kit.php

You can re-colour leather and vinyl plastic etc. Most vinyl & leather paints need a adhesion promoter. This company offers that plus Hycote do one as well.
