35mpg from a Tdi is either optimistic (ie calculation error), or just not likely for most. Ok 30+ can be done if you drive gentle and keep your speed down. But I doubt everyone can get near that and it will depend on the type of use and roads you drive. Also with an auto no f'ing chance.I get 30-35mpg out of my 1997 tdi D1. I think that's pretty good for a 2 ton lump of metal with a 2495cc diesel engine, and the aerodynamics of a housebrick. Just drive her nicely, and she'll be nice back. Probably.

Mine has a de-cat, egr removed ,ailsport intercooler and a k&n filter with a safari snorkel and its a wee bit faster but not really worth the cost.
