Itr's high but depends on the outside temp and how clean your intercooler is... the IAT can go from ambient air temp + 10 to max 30*C depending on outside temp, engine coolant temp and boost(meaured when the coolant gauge is at middle)...also it can be higher if EGR(especially non-cooled EGR) is still fitted.

as long as at cold start in the morning is very close to the outside temp at idle the sensor might not be the problem

It does seem to read over ambient, I will check idle and let you know.

EGR is on the garage floor!

i say again with warm engine is over ambient +10 to 30+ so that 46 can be correct if there were 16* outside if you see what i mean

Started was 31 outside 21, drove for a little while highest was 55 lowest after a while 40 at idle.

Does this seem more or less OK?

Would a more efficient intercooler help?

if at first start in the morning with cold engine was 10*C difference it's not good, they should be quite the same, at 21 outside with high boost 46 is not excessive but the intercooler can be great help, clean the MAP/IAT sensor and check at first start and if there's more than 2-3*C difference in the first minutes then IMO better change the MAP/IAT sensor... the intercooler should be flushed at least once at 50K miles(they say 24 months or 48K miles in the maintainance sheet)

Tahnks will check before work, but those are not cheap sensors!

no they're not and aftermarket can give you erratic readings, it's like in the MAF's situation, only OE is reliable, but bad readings from that sensor can mix up bad the whole management, accurate MAP and IAT readings are very important for the addaptive strategy

On startup within a degree off external, soon goes up, maximum today was 25 over ambient

Then IMO the sensor and the reading is good, you'll need only to flush the intercooler if it wasnt done lately
