Hi all

I need advice from you all. I was involved in a car crash with horse trailer the other day. An engineer is coming out to look at my defender tomorrow but I want to be prepared to argue if they value the car less than what I, and experts, and you think it is currently worth.

It is a black county Td5 defender. Until the crash, no bumps knocks or anything. Never offroaded. Imported years ago from Spain so chassis is sound and not rusted at all. Serviced by my mechanic partner each year. All work undertaken done by Landrover specialist by me. Nothing major done in the four years I have owned it.

Interior- four side seats In back, all seats undamaged. Interior carpeted. Leather type cubby box.

I will attach a picture from my phone. Mileage approx 130000 miles ( will have to check ). I can't find many pics at the moment. The front of the car has had a facelift kit put on which you can't see.

I just want to get an idea of what it is worth (pre crash)

Thanks all!

Checking Ebay, Autotrader, Glass's Guide etc for what similar models and mileages are going for can be valuable, as this can help in your negotiations with the insurance company.

I just paid £12,995 for a green 2003 Defender TD5 CSW with 112,000 miles from a local dealer.
It's a really clean one with no issues at all and no dents, and the interior is immaculate.

My friend purchased a 2003 Defender from the same dealer three years ago, but an XS in black and he paid £10,500!

So prices have certainly risen for good ones it seems.

Thank you

Those TD5 defenders - particularly the later models from 2003-2006 - seem to be getting quite collectable these days and the ones that haven't been messed about too much are hardly depreciating at all.

Do you have a loan car? from your insurer, say first offer whatever it is is totally unacceptable,
have some evidence to back it up , and ask about you getting independent valuation to back it up
if you have a loaner car , it will be costing them money , as will storage if not at one of their approved
repairers . If you want try asking for them price based on you retaining salvage , unless its completely
stuffed. If they are not in costing situation then try a counter offer that is acceptable , then you might get a bit more , but really they have the whip hand .
