I am planning on buying a S1 disco for touring the 819KM of By-ways open to all traffic, available in Wiltshire.

do I need specialist insurnce to cover third parties I will meet on the trails?

anyone using these tracks got any advice?

special insurance no.Normal insurance yes.

They are roads by law so you need everything you would on the road. Insurance, tax, mot, license.

Some insurance companies offer 'Green Laning Cover' as an extra but it's just a con to make their policy look more attractive than their competitors which will offer the same cover just won't advertise it.

Unless you find an insurer which specifically states you aren't covered for green lanes you'll be fine with a normal policy, and even then you could argue that by providing insurance you should be able to drive on all public roads and they're not at liberty to decide which ones you're allowed to take your vehicle on.

I'm sure if an insurance company said they weren't going to insure you on say, all B roads any resulting case would get thrown out of court so I can't imagine greenlanes being any different. Better safe than sorry though.
