OK, got it sorted out now through a local non-specialist insurance broker. Only cost a few quid more and there's now no annual mileage limit to worry about. So much nicer to just get straight through to a human being without being kept on hold indefinitely.
So my advice is, don't overlook your local general household/motor insurance broker when shopping around for quotes - you can't beat that local service!

Apparently it's my fault and they are going to charge me £15 to send me the trasncript even though they will review the tapes themselves.
