I am starting to renovate the 200TDi that will go into my '86 90 to replace the 2.5 N/A thats in there.

I was going to just do the basics (cam belt, water pump etc) but I am now thinking that as I've got the engine out and I've made up a frame for it so its easy to work on, maybe I should go the whole hog and get the cylinder head & valves refurbished and the turbo rebuilt with a billet cartridge. I want to extract more power so it seems the right way to go.

Any suggestions / experience welcome especially any performance mods, I don't want to do stuff just for the sake of it but this LR is a keeper so I may as well make this work count.

your best bet is crank bearings and cam belt the rest can easily be done when engines fitted if and when needed, in my experience

Thanks James, I want to do everything on the frame as then I can drop the engine in and am good to go to minimise the time she is off the road. I know the TDI runs, but I don't know it's provenance. And yes, I guess it makes sense to refresh the crank bearings while it is out.
