Yes I know it's a tyre thread

Quick question if anyone can answer:

I fitted a set of the above tyres on the Fender at Christmas and although the tyre wear is even I seem to be losing tread too quickly. I've only done 3000 miles on them but don't know what the original tread depth was. If anybody has a new set and can measure the depth so I can see what I've lost I'd be most grateful. Googled but can't find :(

Many thanks.

not sure about the dakars but most tyres come with around 12-16mm tread depending on pattern (AT or MT)

If they are insa mud terrain just assume around 15mm at the centre and work from there. Remoulds generally wear faster but this is easily offset by the cost to replace.

Used tyres sometimes look more worn than they are too, my khumos looked worn after only a couple of weeks but i kept an eye on them after and found they looked worse than they actually are :).

It could also depend on your driving conditions, constant high speeds can heat up the rubber and cause it to wear quicker. My own problem is there is lots of roundabouts between work branches so the left front shoulder wears quickly and I should really rotate my tyres more often.

Thanks guys ... mine seem to be down by 5mm already then in the centre of the tyre after 3000 miles ... seems to be wearing rather fast to me then

how are the edges? sound like there could be too much pressure in your tyres.

10mm in 3000 miles is a lot though

That's 10mm left not used ;)

Running pressures at 30psi all round on the road so would think that about right? ....he says trying desperately not to turn this into a tyre pressure debate :p

Yea as Bobbler says they are an MT tyre so not expecting loads of life on the road ... was expecting more than I'm getting though

Drive slower... keep off the road ;)

Thanks then, seriously I don't drive quickly at all ... maybe they'll last longer if I stick in a straight line and don't turn corners ;)

Taking her into MJA on Monday btw for tracking, they don't do 4w alignment but want them to look at another couple of issues :)
