Morning,

i was planning to put a double din stereo in my p38. 1996 2.5.
in order to do that i have to cut the middle console.
exactly next to the clock.
i am trying to keep the original clock in so not touching the left side.

so i wanted to know - there is a hole under the clock . with wires on the rear.

what is that please ?
inside temp reader?

Behind the little grill next to the clock is a tiny fan that draws in air to sense cabin temperature.
Putting a non standard radio in may not be straightforward.
If the radio you are taking out is a genuine P38 original, I might be interested in buying it assuming it is in good working order.
 
no. is not sorry.
i would give it to you but the previous owner put a cd radio in it.
it was an awful thing with tiny buttons and must be put in by a kid. lol. wasn't even straight. lol.

the double din is not a cd or dvd radio. is one of them newer once which are not as deep and has sim card for mobile connection. i.e. sat nav etc.
it uses the same plugs as the original land rover has in. no wire splicing just plug in.
the only difference i have to do is the handbrake wire to minus in order the screen works all the time.

there is no remote control with it - i know influence of central locking. lol.
just touch screen.

but the fact of live sat nav with traffic, free speaking for mobile is the bonus for me. saves putting another free speaking system in it which requires wiring in the loom.

Beware of heat from the HEVAC box. Many of the Chinese head units get far too hot on their own, especially when running Radio/music at same time as sat-nav. Mine has the head unit (with fan mod) under passenger seat, and 1 metre ribbon cable to the screen in dash.
 
I had to fit an adapter to my second aftermarket stereo, the first Kenwood system worked with the pre amps but this jvc unit (same flipping company) didn't so I had to buy an output converter (with good advice given) . I'd of liked a double din unit but I didn't want to cut up the dash panel.

There are single DIN radios with a pull out screen.

Major storm with hail and heavy rain, the bloody roof that cost a fortune is leaking again:mad:
Hope it's better down your way.
 
Nah, thunder and rain and leaking roof here also... I would say it's a French roof thing but I replaced it myself.....

i checked how some of you done it.
there is a heat shield i will install above the hevac. i know the heating of several unit form past cars. lol.

its is from what io seen the same connections but if i need some advise i will ask before .lol.
and no im not taping in the hevac unit wires. lol.

Mine was done by a professional cost Euro 30K and has been nothing but trouble, they redid it 3 times and then went bust. Other people have had a go, in the end I have much of the remedial work despite my fear of heights.

it need to be stupid installed in order to get the screen out and then the hevac is hiding right behind. lol.
i have one of them in the shed.
thats where it stays. lol.

Not a fan of fixed screens in cars myself, I prefer to have GPS on a tablet so I can do route planning in comfort on the kitchen table with a map for choosing the way points so it follows the route I want.

I agree with you there our Keith, we use the telephones in Google maps. Always updated and you can dowoad the map into your phone via wifi and off you go!!.

Moss Is the biggest enemy on your roof... Flipping moss things.. Although à copper dressing in the ridge gets rid of it as long as it isn't drained I to any wells.. Which is a bit naughty... And illegal :eek:

Copper is illegal? Strange, some houses have copper gutters. The mill roof is covered in moss, not bothered about that though, the house roof is pretty clean.

I also use Google maps but on a 10" Samsung tablet although I have used the phone, just need to make sure data is off on the phone or, like a friend, you can end up with a huge phone bill:eek:
