Hi there, have just bought a 2000 td5 90 60000 miles, have a few questions to put to someone with more knowledge of these engines and what to look out for... Firstly what can I check to make sure everything is okay and sound?
Also if I am standing lookin at the front if landy the back of the engine under bulkhead looks very wet.. i.e oily, but it also could be diesel mixed with dirt and crud?? Also the breather pipe coming from rocker cover under engine acoustic cover and onto a plastic cap thingy that is attached to the air intake pipe from filter to turbo, where the pipe joins the intake pipe for turbo it's is very wet, oil/ diesel not sure? When stating from cold after glow plug light has gone of it can be a little lump for 2-3 seconds?? ( bit like and old petrol engine on cold day splutters when starting from cold) not sure if this is normal or not? Seams to drive fine pulls well, some told me to check turbo wast gate arm can move it up and down with pliers so that must be okay?

Can post pics of anyone would like to see it,

Thanks for taking the time to read hope some one can show me the light haha!

leak on drivers side rear of engine will be the fuel pressure regulator (fpr)common failing, breather hose on top can be also ,it only has 4 glow plugs so does sound lumpy on one when first started from cold

Aye, alright cheers.just wondered about the start up because I have been told about the Injector harness causing it to run similar on start up! Cheers

injector harness can be checked by removing connector under rocker box on front of head if its wet in connector it needs changing ,its not a particular fault associated with start up but rough running in general though they can be wet and run fine for quite a while

Thanks i will try and have a look now and find the connecter! Lol does the battery have to be unplugged? It's got an aftermarket alarm and it has a mind of its own dont really feel like disconnecting a lead in case I carnt shut it up!

Oh dear, couldn't see much on the plug below rocket cover, so I took the red plug of Ecu and it looked a little wet and then took the white plate of the inside if Ecu plug and saw the dredded oil! You could see the oil more clearly on inside if the white plastic thing in the plug, it wouldn't let me upload that photo...
