Hazard warning works OK, but indicators dont. No burnt fuses. Could it be flasher relay? (I dont know where it is). Any help much appreciated
She's a defender 90, 2009
 
If the hazards work then no, they use the same flasher relay, almost certainly the hazard switch, it sets the circuits up for the whole system.

I suspect it's disconnected the hazards (or they would still be flashing) but not reconencted the indicator stalk to the flasher unit L and R circuits.

Try playing with the switch, it will probably start to work, if not luck you could take it out and strip it down have a look, probably a tag thats lost it's sprinyness and not pushing up or down on the other terminal - or replace it.

i have same problem.
Discovery 1 (1994) indicators sometimes work sometimes refuse to work. Relay changed but no luck. Hazards work ok.
Can it be the Hazard light switch ???

Yes it could be - this post if for the Defender you have the Disco which is a totally different setup.

The defender routes everything through the hazard switch so makes it a bit of a "hub" for the whole thing.

On the Disco it has a lighting control unit, the hazard switch on the dash is a simple switch - open circuit or closed circuit - if you have not checked this then there is the chance, you can just short out the switch terminals (not the lamp terminals) and if the hazards work then it is the switch, if not then your lighting controller probably needs looked at.

Not on the switch, on the plug that goes into the switch. Make sure to check what the pins do, you will be able to work out which 2 are the switch contacts, OR you can use a multimeter if you have one to find the 2 contacts that go closed and open on switching the switch.

I am not sure the Disco MFU controlled the hazards actually. I remember my 96 Discovery it was side and headlights, washers and wipers, fogs, cabin lights & heated rear window. This is just a guess now, but I suspect the hazards ran independently which also would ensure they would work in an emergency as no MFU to involve if it were to fail.

You could run a MFU diagnostics procedure to see if it all works OK.

With the doors shut press the rear heated windscreen button and hold it, then switch on ign. and release heated rear screen button and the MFU will beep. Then press it again and it beeps again, then you activate all the controls one at a time for the things I mentioned above and the MFU beeps to confirm all is well. Press the heater button again and thee MFU will cycle all the things it controls and I am certain you will not see the hazards or even indicators as part of it.

Right, I checked this - it looks like I may be correct in remembering about the MFU and what all it controls, see below from the workshop manual - no mention of indicators on any of the inputs or tests so I suspect it has nothing to do with it:

Circuit Operation, Multi-Function Unit

The multi-function unit (MFU) is mounted on the rear of the passenger compartment fusebox and has an input to operation of the following:

Heated rear screen

Heated front screen

Courtesy lights

Side and headlights

Rear fog guard lamps

Headlamp power wash

Front wipers

Rear wash/wipe

Testing.

Close all doors and the tailgate. NOTE: If the oil pressure switch goes open circuit (engine is started) during the following procedure, the MFU will exit the diagnostic mode immediately.

Press and hold the heated rear screen switch and switch on the ignition.

Release the heated rear screen switch within 2 seconds and the MFU will beep to indicate that it's in diagnostic mode 1.

Press the heated rear screen switch; the MFU will beep twice. In turn, operate each of the following switches, heated front screen, rear fog guard lamps, side lights, headlights, front wiper, and rear wiper. The MFU will beep twice each time a switch is operated.

Pressing the heated rear screen again will cause the MFU to enter diagnostic mode 2.

The MFU will provide outputs to the following in order given below:

Heated rear screen relay energized for 2 seconds

Heated front screen energized for 2 seconds

Courtesy lights energized for 2 seconds

Dim dip relay energized for 2 seconds

Rear fog guard lamp energized for 2 seconds

Headlamp power wash energized for half a second

Front wiper energized for half a second

Rear wipe/wash energized for half a second

The MFU will then exit the diagnostic mode.
