I have a 2005 l322 td6 , it had a lot of work done over the past year including new front near side air strut new control unit plus valve block plus ride height sensors and all has been running fine with no problems . Until this morning, last night I removed the Sat nav to be sent away for refurb. I started the car this morning and got message air suspension inactive, I have a autel code reader and it has come up with a fault code 8a air suspension inactive CAN , I know this is not really any good for range rover but it' all I have to hand.my question is has any one come across this or any thing simiar. Have spoken with a mechanic and he was not 100% sure that removing the Sat nav could cause this fault , although he did say it is possible as on bmw x5 has had problems with entertainment elecrics that have caused problems with other systems. I am not going to do anything until I get Sat nav back but wanted to know if any o e has heard of this
Ps I live down I Sussex cost near Chichester does any one have a EAS Activate plug I can borrow or buy

From memory I think you have to link the CAN bus when you remove the SatNav but not absolutely sure. Strange beasts the L322's, full left lock then full right lock clears some problems.

Thanks for the reply tried the full lock reset and didn't work ,

Removing Sat Nav shouldn't affect the CANbus - that being said, the Sat Nav is connected to the I Bus, which in turn is connected to the IKE (Instrument Pack). The IKE is used as a network 'bridge' and ties all the buses together to share info as required.....Now it is possible for the Sat Nav on the I Bus to use speed and yaw information from the CANbus via the IKE, for the times when the Sat Nav gyro or INU (Inertial Navigation Unit - as the Aircraft boffs call them) is bandy and there is no Sat signal.

But the Sat Nav would be a slave of the CAN and not be part of its network so removing the unit shouldn't affect it.

The CANbus uses a system of high and low voltage signals, it is pretty basic....the network 'packet' of information contains a header which details what the information contains....this is sent down the wire to each ECU in turn, if the ECU needs the information it reads it and sends it on, if not it ignores it and passes it on......if a packet gets stuck on the network in an ECU, no other packets can get through so the CAN falls over and the ECUs report CAN issues.

Most common on the L322 is the Headlight Leveling module causing CAN issues - that being said, if the ABS system is in fault, it will also drag down the EAS, HDC and DSC as they all rely on ABS information to function.

With the touch screen system on the MOST fibre based network - all that goes out the window and only the Lord above knows how that stuff works!

Ok update a friend brought his diagnostic tool round and the only fault was front right height sensor was reading -31mm and 3.7 volts and all the others were between 2.3 and 2.9 . So did a recalibration and didn't seem to make any difference. So I tried to raise the suspension and it struggles to get to full height, so dropped it down and that happened straightaway, so now back to middle setting and it pops straight up then to top setting and again straight up. My friend suggests it is probably the height sensor had got jammed or had some dirt in it. After a short think about a week ago we had some local flash floods so I was roped in to get my wife and some of her staff into work which ment driving through flood water. I am going to get the height sensor changed as it' a simple job but think we may have cracked one problem with out massive amount of money being thrown at it

Water can get in, had the same thing on a P38 when to O ring sealing the shaft failed. Moving the sensor over it's full range probably just cleaned the track up.

Ok update this morning the front right suspension had dropped down very low started car and after about 20 seconds it popped back up

Ok the story now gets even stranger. The sat nav that I sent off on monday was waiting at home for me last night (friday) so rifitted that started the car to test it all fine. The suspension levelle it' self out , this morning I go to start the car expecting the suspension at the front to have dropped but no it' fine and were it should be. On the ride to work it' riding straight and true. So it may be coincidence but it does appear that removing the Sat nav could cause a fault in the air suspension.

Can you pop it out again and see? If @Saint.V8 is wrong then it needs to be carved into a Land Rover shaped stone tablet and a day of mourning declared.

I did say 'shouldn't'......

Also yours is a 2005, this was a period were some were the touch screen system and some were the older BMW based system.....

@barry williams - Which system do you have?

Touch screen denso system
And that is why removing the sat nav has affected your EAS....

The Sat Nav system is integral to the system and as such removing it will cause EAS issues.

I did say in my post above explaining the system ,that if it is the Touch Screen MOST based system then what I had written would go out the window as that system uses little magic pixies to work and is way above my knowledge - I mean light bouncing around in glass tubes, who they heck can test that???

I am vindicated - no need for a day of mourning just yet!

Lol I am going to get diagnostic machine back on it on monday and see what the heght sensors are doing , as when parked the drivers side still seems a little low but that may be the self levelling or acsses height control but when going along it appears to be fine. I would not have thought it possible for Sat nav to affect air suspension but I have seen it with my own eyes

Ridiculous design, safety critical systems should NEVER be affected by accessories
Sounds like you may have a leaky airbag..

Hi just to let you know it did have a very small leak in front right air bag it was in one of the folds so did not always go down only under certain conditions. Land rover said it was very unlikely that this cause the original fault on the can bus . That was cause by removing Sat nav and not putting in the correct relay clip , they didn't call it that but that' how they described it
