Hi all,
I’m new to forums and don’t know how it all works but I’ve been reading some really informative threads. So thanks all.

Now I am replacing my 2 1/4 NA diesel with a 3.5 V8. I’m in need of the conversion plate to marry the v8 to the 4 speed with fairey overdrive and can’t locate one anywhere. And to be fair anything going that will aid me. Thanks in advance

Sorry, can't help you there. Have read a few threads on LZ about engine swaps needing a conversion plate, but not that combo.

The new thread title might catch someone's eye. Sounds like a tasty engine upgrade.

It's a factory spec wheel chock, the likes of which were supplied with RangeRover classics. True to form they were cunningly designed as individual items of identical size, so when you tried to store a pair of them in the vehicle they wouldn't stack

But more wondering whether it was LWB or SWB?

If it was a LWB then I'd be more inclined to look at chucking an LT77 and LT230 in it with a conversion on the LT230 to make it selectable 2&4wd and negate the need for an adaptor plate but only down side of that is having to get props made up to fit, but it will give him a stronger main and transfer box to start off with, a V8 LT77 should be an easy find these days as most folk are ripping them out for the 300Tdis from Disco's

Early Nineties had two and a quarter as well.

Actually, he doesn't say, but if his avatar is anything to go by, LWB.

I wouldn't bother with a Rover V8, if I were transplanting a petrol engine into a series all over again I would most likely do a Jag V12 or a BMW M52 2.8 straight six.

For me I think the Rover V8 conversions have been done to death and I would like to see something new or different done, but it all comes down to who ever is doing what, most likely they already they already have the engine and just want to get it fitted.

Rover V8 is a tried and trusted engine, and good parts availability, and provides a useful power improvement in a LWB Series.
Quite a good compromise against time and effort.
Personally, if I was to get another Landrover, it would probably be a nice, clean, original 2a 88 inch soft top, just to drive on sunny Sundays.
Doubt if I will, though, after 35 years driving them and messing around with them, my back is feeling the pace, and I like my boat, and my Mondeo when I have to drive.

For me that is the beauty of the Discovery, it is comfortable enough but does it's job off road.

I do like a tidy transplant though, seen some crackers and some OMG what have you done jobbies too

Discos are fine, but I am a classic nut at heart.

It isn't hard to improve on a Landrover engine, especially the diesels, so conversions have always been popular. I ran a Perkins 4/203 in a LWB Station Wagon for years, and it was a great working and laneing vehicle.
I have seen some roughish conversions as well, sadly!

I drove a light weight series 2a that had a Ford Cologne 2.9i V6 transplanted into it, ran megasquirt and sequential LPG, it was the nicest SWB series I had ever driven, on parabolics it had the most supple ride ever, and power, bags of it! I think it ranks as one of the best Land Rovers I ever drove.
