After filling with fuel on tuesday morning i tried to start the car and nothing, all interior lights were working and no faults were coming up on dash, i'd only driven 2 minutes along the road and had all the heaters and lights on so i thought the battery didn't have enough juice to crank. Got a jump start and still no joy so got five lads to give me a push and then she decided to start after moving about 10 feet.

Is there something at a filling station that can interfere with the car and cause the immobilser to come on? I'm guessing that is what happened.

Only problem is i'm a bit worried about filling up again and the same thing happening.

You have the old RF receiver on your vehicle, they are susceptible to interference from many wireless devices, including the wireless CCTV systems most garages use. The only real fix is to buy the modified V3 receiver which I think you can get from Island 4x4 but they cost £180 or there abouts. There are cheaper versions on eBay but you can't guarantee what you're buying is the legit V3 and not just V1 or V2 innards in a V3 case without cracking the case open.

hi , the R.F. RECIEVER you need is a series 3 with round green sticker on , part no = YWY500170 . as suggested approx 180.oo from island 4x4 .. DO NOT buy off e-bay without validating supplier as there are plenty of them being RINGED ??????????

DSCF3811 - Copy (2).jpg the one on the far right is the one you need . kind regards MOZZ

i was having exactly the same prob, and additional battery drain at home. Little village with lots of sources of battery drain, wi-fi, diy weather stations, a wireless septic tank sender unit etc etc.

fitted the new reciever from island 4x4 and all probs fixed.

was the garage in question an esso? There the ones that buggered me up round here.

It was an Esso actually, i think i'll just have to buy the reciever i cant keep filling up from a jerry can and leaving the car unlocked the whole time.

After that reading......Sounds like the upgrade Is worth every penny :)

Yes just make sure you buy from a well know source and check it before fitting against the photos supplied by mozz earler in post unless you have late model 1999 and over

Why would being a 1999 or later make a difference when that site states the fix came out circa 2004? That suggests all P38s have the problem.

The laters modules have them fitted have you ever seen a 1999 onwards with keyfob problems I haven't :)or should I say they have passive ingnition that work :)

Surely if you have a 2001 / 2002 model would this not have been a recall as part of the warranty?

Sorry they do not, at least none that I have seen. The MK2 was better than the MK 1 and was fitted to late model cars, MK 3 not made until after production stopped.
