Defender 90 puma 2008What motor is this and the year?
Thank you for the reply....appreciated. I have ordered a new part......I was worried about it being runaway but I think this would not respond to the ignition being turned again.Remove steering cowling.
Centre punch the shear bolts out.
Remember where the cables on the back go. It's a tight job
Hope this helps
It does sound like the barrel has gone, but you could do with someone like @Kwakerman reading this, to see if there are other possibilities first. As Hicap phill says, it's a very tight job taking the barrel off in situ. I took mine off with the steering column off the Landy. The shear bolts (on my 1996 vehicle anyway) were made of a surprisingly soft alloy. I cut a groove in them to get a screwdriver blade in. Very hard to do in situ. You'd know if the engine was in runaway. It would rev extremely highly and you'd shat yourself very quickly.Thank you for the reply....appreciated. A mate had a similar issue with his 2009 90. Put some lube into ignition barrel and been fine since [ 2 years ago ]
Engine runaway has nothing to do with the ignition switch and turning it off would not help.
