Hi There

Im hoping someone can help me please,

I get in the car it starts 98% of the time and then all of sudden it decides when you put the key in the ignition it doesnt do anything.

All the ignition lights come on, yellow coil light thing goes out, turn the key and nothing happens for about 10-15 attempts??

Anyone shed any light please.

Many thanks in advance
Emma

knackered starter motor, dodgy fly lead to the starter motor, knackered ignition switch, knackered transponder receiver ring or knackered alarm spider.

hhhhmmmmmm ok, i think i will put up with it until it completely dies!!! Which one is the best to start with??

You need to wait until it hapens again and first of all try pressing 'unlock' on the keyfob and seeing if that allows it to start. If that makes no difference, check to see if there is a live feed getting to the starter motor fly lead (the small lead on the starter motor with a spade connector on it). If it's getting a live feed then give the connector a wiggle. If that cures it, it was just a dodgy connection. If it doesn't it's the starter motor.

If it's not getting a live feed then you need to check that the ignition switch is giving off a live feed on the 3rd key position (crank position). If that's giving a live feed you are then looking for an ignition relay or immobiliser fault. The next step woul be to try changing the ignition relay. If that doesn't cure it then you are looking at an immobiliser fault.

The one that has failed ! Ratty has pointed out the usual suspects, but its pointless guessing, better to find the ACTUAL culprit - in this case not hard to do,Any garage worth their salt should diagnose this very quickly if you dont want to have a go.
