So I have spent the last half hour trying to find a definite answer to no avail.
Can anybody tell me which wire goes on what connection?

I have a small white and red, a small white and orange, a thick brown and a thick white.

Also I don’t like this ignition barrel, is there a better quality one or can anybody recommend a quality push button ignition system, so I can do away with it completely?

Many thanks
Tom

James Martin posted your answer a while back, maybe a search of his posts will bring it up. I did have it written in the back of my Haynes manual but I threw it away and got another when it got too oily/ tatty to use.

This is my 200tdi ignition wiring.

Ignition barrel is fitted the correct way up, as viewed from standing outside the drivers door.

BROWN ON YOURS BROWN WHITE MY2002 COLOURS CHANGE WITH YEAR TYPE OF ENGINE YOUR WHITE AND ORANGE COULD BE BROWN NON TURBO
WHITE AND RED COULD BE WHITE AND BLACK ON NON TURBO THE V8 WOULD BE THE SAME

Sorry to Hijack your Thread Mate, Glad you got it sorted.
While on the subject of Ignition Barrel, I have one in my pile of parts which is connected to full loom, Was going to use it on my rebuild as nearly at the stage to wire everything up But there is no key for it,
Question is, Can Just the barrel itself be changed and swapped for new one with keys?

yes. Remove small screws to allow the ignition switch to be removed from the barrel

But Complete barrels are cheap enough to swap wires over though
