can anyone tell me if the stepper motor is the same on 4.0 and 4.6...ive tried forum search without sucess....any tips on setting up without testbook or similar..motor is 1998 with wa in the chassis number...

Gems engine 4.0&4.6 are the same so too is d2 and p38 Thor spec
Yes you need testbook to set it up are sure this is the fault has the ecu been tested?

the car was running great apart from head gasket gone...i repaired that and cleaned plenum and intake new maf new stepper motor and put it all together now im stumped ,,,just races at 2000..looks like paying...i cant find any set up info on rave or such.....

What is wrong is that the engine ecu is seeing a higher voltage feedback from the throttle position sensor than its stored reference voltage. This is usually from about .45-.72v.If the ecu never sees the same or lower than stored voltage it will just assume you have your foot on the throttle so it keeps the stepper jacked open ready to accept load when the throttle does get closed. There is free play on the cable too - it must have some.
You can try bending the tang on the butterfly stop very slightly to allow it to close a tad more if you dont have Testbook to recalibrate it.Be careful though, the tang will break quite easily.
The faults can happily stay in the ecu with no ill effect, and if it runs well the fuel and ignition trims will adapt over the next few hundred miles to counter any slight changes from the engine work.

slotted the tps and turned down idle speed ....easy when you know how..i must say how unhelpful ive found this forum to be ..

Suit yourself, what you have done is a bodge.I gave a detailed and accurate answer - which was not the 1 minute free fix you were obviously after.

Purely cos I'm interested, i assume the t&b is that you need to reset the reference voltage in the ecu?

Like you suggested bending the end stop and/or slotting the TPS to achieve the same effect, this is just a get around to try to achieve a lower voltage?
