Yeah , I noticed the lack of price too. Possibly a tad eye-watering :(

i live in the nearest village to them, apparently years a go they were good, you won't get a great deal from them now, they are not interested in small money. some reyt stuff come in and out of them though

Sadly a lot of the small businesses go that way when the contracts get bigger. They're buying in bulk at discount, to make as much as possible in return. Can't really blame them as times are getting harder and every penny counts.

Why would anyone want an ex-mil vehicle? It has spent it's life getting abused and would be in absolute clip.

Not all of them. The ones for ferrying diplomats around generally have an easier life. Then again, some of the military ones have some nice cubby holes and some have roll-cages if you're looking for a decent off-roader that is going to be hammered anyway. And when i comes to replacing parts the MoD was usually pretty good. Still, stick an 18 year old rock-ape in the driving seat and it ain't going to be pretty.

I'm still wondering what those G-wagons were used for! They looked quite a high spec with leather seats etc.

Diplomat vehicles tend to be white fleet, the only good green fleet I have seen are the handful of Rovers used during ceremonial duties.
The MoD uses a lot of Britpart, so even the parts aren't good. I've lost count of the amount of vehicles that shouldn't be on the road but get a pass. Or the amount of bodged vehicles, such as broken hub bolts superglued in place (seen 5 vehicles in the way so far this year).
REME VMs are a bunch of cantankerous ****s who shouldn't be allowed a box of crayons, let alone a box of spanners.

You can't even say you're getting a bargain, by the time exMoD vehicles get to the open market they are well over priced. If you can buy one from the release agent, you can get them for a few hundred quid, IIRC, the last released sold for £300 each.

The MoD took the last delivery of Rovers in 1997 and they are due to stay in service until around 2030. So all that is going to get released now are vehicles in absolute **** state.

33 years in service is an awful long time, much more than most aficionados will have served no doubt.
Owning one may be just enough reason to keep the shears set on 1,;)

And yet for 30 years , I was happy enough in my MoD vehs, they took me a lot of places, on tarmac and off, at home and abroad. I had no issues with getting them maintained and no issues with the VMs. VMs can be cantankerous but that might be something to do with the idiots who are allowed to drive MoD vehicles  :D If they broke down, they got fixed, simples. As for why an MoD one, because of the differences to the civvie ones.
Maybe you're a little bit jaded Bix, for some reason, but look on the bright side, you get to play in uniform, get paid for it and have learned how to chunter like a good'n. :D:D

Wow, 30 whole years? You must've used a SIII LW from new. I imagine you're getting a lot of nostalgia from it. Times are a changing, out sourcing everything to civvies is the new way things are done. Last year we didn't send a single vehicle to DSG, we got bollocked because the MoD has a contract promising them work and we wasn't pulling our weight to fulfil it. The problem with that is it means VMs aren't getting any spanner time as any job that takes more than 2 hours (all of them), has to be sent to DSG.
Yeah, I'm a little jaded, I've had pay cuts, pay freezes and my pension gutted all in the interest of "fairness", I can't wait for the new "fairer" accommodation system to come in place. MoD wants to sell it's accommodation (pads and blocks) and have the lads rent locally, because it'll be "fairer" and absolutely not cost cutting.

They're f*cking everybody over. Anything the government touches has had its budget slashed to the point where the slightest pressure point will cause a calamity. Sod the bl**dy b*nkers. I've actually started typying banker with an asterix in case the rude word checker gets it!

Cfmn Bix in full swing

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes Bix , 30 whole years, which knocks your 3 years ( and a couple of months) into a cocked hat. Therefore, you can knock, or sneer at, my 30 when you equal or pass it. So wind your neck in.
It's probably for another thread but I have to say your whinging about conditions is nothing new, people were whinging before I joined, they were whinging through all the years I Served , were whinging when I left a couple of years ago and as you have shown ,are still whinging You know what they say about if you don't like it.
As for pay cuts and freezes, the British Forces to date have not had any for over 4 decades. In fact they took a massive leap when Maggie came to power and have risen each year since. I believe since you joined a Pte , then Cfmn on level 1 the pay rate has risen by approx £180 per year ,at this time , plus each year sees an increase on level. The levels meaning that after 3 whole years the same Pte/ Cfmn would now be on approx £3.5 k pa more than on joining. Not forgetting the addition of trade pay. Your pension is exactly the same AFPS ?(whatever year yours is) as it was before. Any changes are at this time proposals and the main one is the proposal not to give 'ranks' a raise each year, which would do away with 'levels'.Which is in line with civvie street. Very few jobs give people a raise just because a year has passed. In regard to accomodation, check again. There has always been an 'option' to live out ,the latest round just pushes that option further to the front. If you're going to whinge, try whinging about things that are correct
Back on topic, considering you were aware I only retired a couple of years ago, it does your 'knowledge' of LR no justice to comment I must've driven Series III from new , as they were 'new' in 1975 and stopped production in 1985. Or did you get mixed up with Series III and the Defender? Which I have driven since they were new. Or were you being bitchy again about someone who has socks that have done more time than and seen more action than you? Which wouldn't be hard, would it?
However, I started the thread about the Series II, which means two, unlike III , which means three. I sadly never got the opportunity to play in , the Series II but do like them and would like to have one.

Normally when i block someone I don't announce it but as Bix has seen fit to sneer at my 30 years Service, I feel justified in the following:
Just so you know Jordan, you're going on block. You can bluster and whinge all you like in response.I won't have to see your crap. For someone, who couldn't ask me enough for help , when you were trying to join up, and received it, you have turned into a whinging , lying, snotty, little oik, trying to make yourself look bigger by sneering at someone who has done what you can only dream of. I could allude to why , considering your age, you actually joined when you did but I'll leave that for others to work out

I've got 51 years of trying to deal with Muppets who think putting someone down somehow lifts them up o_O

I'm still not very good at it though :D
