'Eve All,

I'm due some back pay from work and want to get myself another landy (1 stolen, 1 replaced due to little un)

I'm looking at these three (totally different!) ones and wanted opinions:

LAND ROVER DEFENDER 90 1986 GREEN BARGAIN on eBay (end time 28-Apr-11 14:10:36 BST)

Land Rover 90 V8 Soft top Superb sound and very solid on eBay (end time 30-Apr-11 23:01:47 BST)

1968 LAND ROVER GREEN/BLACK on eBay (end time 01-May-11 20:13:23 BST)

I'm worried about tax, but not that worried - tax exempt would be nice...
I'd like a V8, but not bothered if i dont get it....
And it will be spending it's days as a ragtop but not worried about any changes this will require.

The V8 is a minging colour, appears to be based on a rangerover, with 90 front and series w/screen and doors... so is a bit of mix...

What are your thoughts?

Nick

I would have, in order of choice, the lightweight, the limegreen one then the other one. They all look sound enough but I would be having a look first. Better be quick as they are open to offers.

Payday tomorrow night... And week off from work to do some investigations.

On the lightweight - Is it the same size Tilt as a standard SWB?

I had a lightweight a few years back, not sure about the length but they are narrower than the non military Landies. Although they are narrower, they are heavier!

Hmm, are they? There are still 3 seat up front though??
Yes, still 3 seats up front. Actually, the reason I think lightweights are narrower is because I replaced an outrigger and had to cut down a normal one to fit...but the chassis rails may be further apart, not sure.

could the chassis be the same and the body narrower thats why you had to cut it

stay away from ones with BARGAIN in the title cos it will not be

Landrover 90 V8 soft top, first registered on 01/02/1980  Land Rover Series III (1971 - 1985) 88" things just don't seem right with this one. its been on ebay for a few month now that one

they are 11/2 narrower same length arent heavier, std 88 canvas fits, chassis rails the same, just narrower out riggers, made to fit an aircraft that wasnt used by the time they came out so width was eventually irrelavent ,std axles apart from drive members and outer halfshaft

The lightweight Landrover is a 1/2 ton model specially produced for military use, featuring narrower axles, the width was the same as the Series 1, to enable them to fit in the Andover aircraft. The name lightweight is confusing as it was heavier than civilian Landrovers but lighter than the usual military ones. Quoted from page 30 , Haynes restoration manual H622.
