Well, it went grind....Grind.....Bang.....

And now I await the RAC to recover my 1988 110 back home.

I suspect CV, but more than likely the diff has let go......Hoping for CV....

Was pulling out of a parking space infill lock when it happened. Have drive in difflock but it is jerky and Grinch......hmmmmm

Oh sh*t! sorry to read this. :( I feel for you.

Sounds like a deffo recovery job.

If I were closer I'd give you a hand.

Appreciate the offer if you were closer....

Yes bit of a bind but these things are sent to try us!

I am lucky I have a girlfriend who also drives a Land Rover so understands these things happen without getting all huffy and annoyed!

Cheers bud, it helps not having an ear bashing each time.

Just waiting for the truck....Why is it that you tell them there is nothing the man in a van can do so just send a lorry to take me home they still have to send a van which takes an hour who only says hi an then he arranged a lorry which takes another hour!!!??

Because they think the person they're talking to is an idiot and doesn't know what they're on about. They think the only people on this face of this planet who knows anything about cars is them.

Wrong, very very wrong....

You're not a million miles from me, I'm no mechanic by any means but if I'm about and you need a hand lifting anything give me a shout.

I work with a lot of managers who are like that!!!!

There are times when I think an "unlike" option would be appropriate :(
you would be surprised at the number of people that try to scam the Recovery operators, in a wide variety of ways

I'm sure they do, but if drive or a diff has gone on a 4wd what is a man in a van going to do exactly mate ?

Call a recovery truck.

Latest eta as per phonecall just now is 13.20 been here since just after 9am.....

Members on here might know what they are talking about but very often the owner/driver may be very much mistaken about the cause of their problem.
The man in the van might know of a local facility for carrying out a quick-fix to avoid the need/cost of a Recovery.
The organisations may wish to check out the situation before referring the matter on to a local contractor.
The owner./driver may even just be wanting the vehicle taken home because he has just bought it and can't drive 2 cars at once.
The owner/driver may wish a car taken home because it has no tax/insurance and so invents a "breakdown".
The phone operatives are just that - they are not mechanics - they take the location details etc, and then ask a Tech to check it out.

Yes, it is a pain for those of us that know a bit about our cars...but we are very much in the minority. Procedures are based around the majority.
:)

I dont disagree at all with what you say fella - there are plenty out there who would do any one of those I have no doubt at all !

No probs

Indeed. At least it only needs spanners and some pictures of the Queen.

You are, and so am I :). She drives a D1, so she knows too ;) - though issues with these tend to revolve around some red ish powdery stuff, and a phone call ( or two ) to YRM/Easy-On, and some heat:D:D:D:rolleyes:

( she, and I had "modern stuff" prior to coming back to LR a couple of years ago. We're sticking with D1's :))

Happens every flaming time.

Twice I've left keys in a safe place , so low-loader man can pick them up and had the man in a van take me home, as it was going to be hours for the low-loader.
Got to say I feel for you Ant. Nothing, I can do but offer a virtual shoulder if you need it and wish you luck.

I sold my L322 as it was getting expensive to repair, since having this 29 year old 110 it has been more repairs but much cheaper each time!!

Thanks GR. Have to say older Landy ownership is just as much fun as L322 ownership only more rust and more grease!
