morning all, I hope your all well!
I’ve found myself in a bit of a predicament and long story short I need to switch up my Audi for some sort of vehicle that accommodates a lockable crate for dog. I’d ideally like a bulkhead separating and naturally and stupidly the defender started whispering to me.

I get a fairly good car allowance. I went to Nissan yest to view a year old navara which had 3k on clock and was perfect for the job. This would not be a cash I.e I’d pay my car allowance to it monthly.

I also saw s lovely fender on way home for 14k. This would be a cash buy pretty much and would obviously have no warranty etc but I’d do all servicing etc myself and know all running costs. I lean towards this and love them but can I put up with it? If I do seat upgrade and a bit of sound deadening will it still likely break me on the motorway? Yes I drive a good spec rep mobile at the moment but am no stranger to driver flat bed transits up and down the country. Could I get a bit of wisdom please? In short, I want 4x4, dog separation or at least a hard sectioned rear for dog crate that I can sponge down and will prob do 25k miles a year in. I need it to look presentable which I think a fender is in any place lol and I want to be able to both stick work shirts on a hanger and throw muddy boots and fishing rods in. Thanks!

You are still alive then :)

Navara or a D-Max DCPU with canopy on your budget perfectly doable and comfortable on the commute.

Fender is nice but not my first choice for 25k a year

+1 with DD.
Sit in a fender with a wet dog. Then drive to work next day. Not good.
At least with a canopy they can smell to get hearts content(&eat you wellies)

Cheers all I thought it was probably stupid. I thought navara had the iffy chassis? Had a dmax Utah for few months and hated it in comparison to others. I’ll put Audi up for private sale and see what I can get once it’s gone. Cheers

Still alive with a bitter taste in mouth but am sorting that sh1t out. Will get on disco again once I’ve sorted my life a bit. I gotta build a kennel and have a full dog system to keep the dog. I’ll prob buy a kennel and run system just for nights when away and have dog walker see to him.

Navaras did have chassis probs, a lot were fixed under extended warranty but I don't think the latest model is affected.
D max is a good shout, ranger is meant to be pretty good too

It’s perfectly doable - I’ve done 100k in the last three years in mine. I’ll not pretend that a modern pickup or a Disco wouldn’t be more comfortable, but I don’t find any major issues doing 500-600 miles in a day.

All comes down to what you like at the end of the day. I’ve had other cars in the past but they’re just boring. And expensive.

So a bit more development - I naturally have less cash then I thought and don’t really want debt. I claim business miles so fuel isn’t so bad. I tested a lovely 90 at James French put px price on Audi was too low for me to afford. I then took on board what you all said and thought maybe it would get miserable. As such, I’m now looking for a hilux for the sum of around 12k including vat. I don’t really want another dmax as I wasn’t keen on it. Don’t know how good l200 are but could really do with a 6th gear for motorway. The good news is I think 12k could get me a respectable one.

I'd steer very well clear of the Ni$$an sh*t - if you CBA'd, have a nosy on the tube for west yorkshire engine services vids on all the problems - engines, gb's .... and then there's the minor, but well known, falling in half "issue" :mad::mad:

Toyota would be my choice - but I know the Rangers have improved some - which, TBF, they needed to :D

Landy owners slagging off reliability of Nissans is a bit kettle and pot.

Col

Not IME - Genuinely.

We have a Ni$$an FLT which is a fantastic tool - and it's only issues have been caused by the ineptitude of the main dealer  .....

The Ni$$an PU we had needed a new chassis, the timing chains done at 60K miles (!), and many other jobs which made it completely uneconomic .... it also ate fuel.

Our D1's are far better in every measurable way that matters to us - and certainly far more reliable than either my ex D40 PU, or SWMBO's ex Pug... (Ah! the pug - which supposedly/probably needed a new engine loom (£1500), and a new comms2000 unit ( £1K) - it had done 70K by this point ......)

Rangers are ok but If you’re working it forget about getting one, out of all the pick ups the Hilux is the boss

From what I have seen, I agree completely. Sadly, I have an unusual build ( short body and long legs ) So I don't fit in one comfortably - otherwise I would have one .....
