so I’ve been lookIng for a freelander for the past few weeks and I’ve gone and got one. For a steal too!
It’s a 54plate td4, needs some minor work nothing too bad and an mot. No rust at all. Never seen a welder, 4x4 all working no clunks and bangs

Does need a window mech and tidying up but I’m well happy!

checked the vcu best i could, got told to reverse on full lock without touching the accellerator.. did that seems okay.
all tyres inc the spare all ok although the back two are more worn than the front but nothing im not expecting

overall im well happy.
just out of interest and to see if its as good of a deal as i think. what would people expect to pay for a 54 plate td4?

That's not the best test. The One Wheel Up Test is the only way to be sure.

Are they all identical, same make, same type and size? The transmission get destroyed if not.

That's bad as it overloads the transition, which will eventually fail big time.
Tyres are critical for long transmission life.

I depends on spec, mileage, condition of the vehicle as a whole.
For a guide. 3 years ago, I paid £1,800 for my 05 TD4 SE auto with 105K on it. It also came with a nice leather interior and the optional winter pack fitted.
I rejected any FL1s that didn't have the winter pack, as I like a heated front screen.
My FL1 SE also came with 4 new and identical tyres and the history showed it always had tyres 4 at a time, so keeping the transition in perfect condition.

all 4 tyres are the same make, and i say worn more than the rest the front two look new the back two look slighty more worn.

Welcome to the world of Freelander ownership. Follow the advice of the learned folks on here and you should be able to enjoy your motor

I'll get some pics up when I figure out how to and expect a lot of questions!
I will change over the tyres tomorrow in daylight

please do not mention welders they are for the tratter guys

A tratter is what land rover call a defender or series land rover. Nick named tratter as their owners believe they're real tractors. They drive round in them with the window down shouting oo arr get oft mi land. They like the image of being a farmer so they buy a tratter to live the dream. More often than not they own a pet pig. They take their pig with them when they go out trattering. A pig is a tratterers best friend.

Hahahahahaha I only personally know one person with a series 2 defender... he’s my wife’s cousin. He actually is a farmer and does pretty much what you just said!!

i hope i done it right. there she is, 2.0d se, with heated front window, heated half leathers, hill decent assist tow bar and parking sensors. 180k on the clock and cost me £230 :D

Same spec as mine, although mine did cost considerably more, but had 75K less miles.

does anyone know if the threaded bit can be bought separately? i need to replace tge trackrod end but its pulling on the thread :(

When I needed to redo the tracking, it was easier (and probably cheaper) to replace the whole track rod and replace the track rod ends with new, genuine parts :) I was also able to re-centre the steering rack which was way off (which meant that I also had to remove the steering wheel to the correct position!)

Just bought all the bits. Bought the full arm and end as it didn’t make much difference price wise. Is the rack easy to get to? Or is it a pig of a job?
