Hi

Hope someone can help, i have a 2013 Freelander 2 Auto which i brought recently, i get a humming noise from the left side engine (sounds like its from thier i could be wrong) when the car is locked after i have been driving it. It normally goes off with a click after a minute or so, but sometimes i just carries on ? and i go back in the car start the engine and lock it again then it goes off again after a minute ?

Just concerned leaving it going incase it drains the battery ? is this sound normal or is it something i need to get looked at ?

Thanks in advance for any info :)

Mine makes a quiet whining noise, with the occasional clicking sound, which is correct for this vehicle.

Thx for the reply nice to know it’s normal

If you hear a sound that sounds like stripping gears, then the throttle butterfly drive gears have failed (pretty common), requiring a replacement throttle body be fitted and calibrated. When the gears strip, the occasional clicking noise tends to stop, as the throttle butterfly isn't moving correctly, which is what is clicking.

Hi

thx for the reply it’s not a stripping sound more of an electrical buzz sound like somethings shutting down.

thx

Naively I always thought this was just an electric fan running for a while until some engine part was down below a threshold temperature and I could ignore it...sounds like I got the second part right
