Hi all. I have changed the hub seal on the rear of my 1984 88. I have been told I need a Stub axle collar (the ring that the seal runs on), but when i took the hub off there wasn't one there in the first place. I tried fitting one anyway, but it doesn't fit (it is like fitting a spacer and the hub assembly then doesn't sit against the stub axel) I know I have the later type hub assembly. Could anyone shed some light as to whether I need this collar or not? Thanks.

Once it has been on for some time the collar will look as if it is part of the stub axle. The only way to get it off is to smash it with a chisel. Why have you been told you need to change it? is the new seal leaking?

yeh the new seal leaked again :( Ive really greased everything up this time and checked the breather so hopefully no problems. If no joy I guess I should change the old stub collar?
