Hi All,

As the title suggests, this morning i changed the HT leads and spark plugs, due to a slight misfire (now rectified). However now i have no sound from my stereo system, It's a 2000 P38 fitted with original Alpine/HK system. The radio comes on etc, changes to cd as usual just no sound................ Please help. How can changing leads/plugs lead to no sound......................Bloody cars!!!

It can't. Just a coincidence. Treat it as a seperate problem. The system outs are low level, the amps are 4 in the doors and 1 in the subwoofer. You either have an IC problem in the head unit or the power circuit to all the amps. Its highly unlikely that 5 amps blew up at the same time and you didn't hear it so don't panic either.

Sorry, IC meaning integrated circuit or in other words a chip. Since you say the head unit works perhaps its output chip is not actually sending any sound out or it may not be sending the signal to power up the main amps. So this is a problem in the head unit. On the other hand it may be sending sound and it may be sending the power signal but the main amps are still not switching on which would indicate that there is a problem in the power circuit.

I would try to borrow a known working head unit and swap it in for a test.

My first call when there's a "gremlin" is to disconnect the battery and discharge i.e. wait a wee while before reconnecting, maybe hold + - together to be sure.
(edit: CABLES together NOT BATTERY OF-COURSE - VERY EXPLOSIVE)
It has solved many a bizarre issue but of course not the answer to everything.
Need to reset windows/radio etc. after & have the eka & radio code handy just in case.
Best thing; it's free and only little effort...
Remember correct procedure; ign. on - loosen negative on battery but leave on - switch off ignition - key in pocket - leave door open - quickly take off negative and it should be trouble free.

Thanks for the advice both of you, i pulled the fuse last night and have left it out overnight, will try again this morning, if not a success may try the battery trick, it was all fine day before...................these cars take some loving!!

Pulling the fuse didn't help at all, disconnected the battery earth for a bit, didn't seem to help- didn't even need to put radio code back in. Is there a sure fire way to check the DSP amp in the boot space, i really can't see it being the head unit as there is nothing from the f/f satnav either, that is muted. Any more suggestions or help would be great, thanks again all..............

Is it possible to test the DSP amp in any way? If i put an aftermarket head unit in could i expect anything, by doing this it might confirm it is not the head unit??
Any suggestions would be great, thanks all
