Was looking at a freelander HSE (About a 05 reg) and in the boot where I'm used to seeing a lockable bit in the floor, it's just screwed down. When I opened it I found (other than the usual water) a black box screwed to the inside with some wires attached. It's a shame as the lockable area is pretty handy for me to transport some... special stuff... that I need to carry for my job.
I'm sure someone can tell me what's the box for and is it just on the HSE models?

Probably the convenience ECU i.e. the box that controls the extra electronic gadgets you get on an HSE, (as well as automatic door hinge removers for wading.:D)

Again thanks all, I just bought an SE model, with plenty of room in the boot for my special stash!!! And no bobbler it's not for drugs. hehehe If only you knew what it was really for.

You didn't finish your sentance...

if only we knew what it was really for... we would what? avoid you? rob you? ignore you? call the police?
 
I still dont see what sexual preference has to do with vehicle selection.... what about the Welsh/Scots/Cornish/Glaswegian type of deviant??? ;)
 
Seriously what is the black box on the underside of hatch. Mine crackles like a bad speaker when the radio is on

It's the subwoofer. If it's crackling, then then speaker driver inside has gone wrong. It's easy and cheap to replace driver. It's been asked on here many times. ;)
