Hello all.

Got myself a nice little RR Classic as a project and it needs the belt for the P/S pump replaced.
I only had a quick look under the bonnet while I was out whipping the rear hubs off, but it looked like I have to take the belt for the offside ancillaries off (as well as the alternator belt) to get the P/S belt on.
Is this right?
Or more likely, am I being a mong?

Thanks, Stuart.

Depends what year it is.

If it is a standard 3.5 or 3.9 with "V" belts, you need to remove primary fan belt, alternator belt and then the power steering pump belt. I know that sounds like a right faff but it is an easy job really, shouldn't take too long to do, maybe 30 min.

Hi mate.

It's a 3.9 with V belts.
Another stupid question; how do I take the tension off the primary belt?
Don't say "with the tensioner"!? Lol. How do I 'operate' the tensioner to loosen it and remove the belt?

Thanks, Stuart.

That's about right! It is really easy - there are two tensioners, they are both identical. You need to look for the clamp nut/bolt, undo it until the tensioner can move - that's it. IIRC for the pinch bolt it's a 10mm socket. While you're in there I would get the tensioner off, check for play in the bearing, there should be no "wobble" at all in the pulley wheel and it should spin very freely. HTH
