I got a rattle noise from my freelander tdi (245 000km's)not al the time thou, it happens every now and then, the engine will start ratteling like the older diesel engines, and suddenly will go smooth again. A friend suggest that it could be faulty injector/injectors. I want to remove the injectors for testing purposes, but not sure if this a "diy" job. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Not sure about tdi but on TD4 it is a job you can do but they may be we and truly stuck in. I have had mine out about 4 times now - the last 3 times easy but the first a nightmare.

I suggest copious amounts of wd40 and a hot engine. Use plenty of WD on the retaining collar bolts if you have them as the studs snap easily and it is a pig of a job then.

Many people think that injectors should last the life of the engine, this is untrue. Injectors are a serviceable item and should be replaced on a regular basis (similar to spark plugs). All injectors are exposed to combustion gasses and will become contaminated with carbon which will result in incorrect atomisation (piddling) over time, this will then result in black smoke (unburned fuel) loss of power and possible miss-fire.
