If there is a red topped lever coming out of the driver's floor and a yellow topped one coming out of the side of the transmission tunnel with a spring on it then the gearbox is a series type - if the box crunches badly when changing into 1st or 2nd then it's a non-synchro box from a series IIA or earlier. If it does not have these levers then the box is probably from a coil sprung Land-Rover of some kind.
