Hi,
Is there any possibility to fit turbochrger to 2,5 diesel engine?:confused:
Is the 200Tdi Engine the same just with Turbocharger? Or is the engine block different,

So the turbocharger could fit there without any problem with lubrication of the piston? There were also 2,5 petrol with turbo?
 
The 200tdi is quite a bit different to the old 2.5 naturally aspirated engine or the 2.25 and 2.5 petrol engines.

As far as I know there were never any factory petrol turbo land rovers, I wouldn't be surprised if it's been done somewhere though ;)

The turbo Landys prior to the 200TDi were just basically the old injun wiv a turbo stuck on..........& they weren't all that!
 
I'm not sure if the head is the same on a 2.5 and 2.5td i.e. pressures involved. Might be worth checking it out before you bolt things on or it might go pop! Someone on here will know if it can be done i'm sure.
 
You can buy a 2.5TD for very little as everyone thinks they're **** and wants a tdi. I've got a td and a 2.5n/a at the mo(no, not in the same landy:rolleyes: ) and I reckon a good n/a isn't far behind an average td performance wise. Definitely not enoiugh difference to warrant blowing up a good n/a by fitting a dodgy turbo conversion.
 
Take care with the conversion in the planning stage.

It is easy enough to take an oil FEED to the turbo for lubricating and cooling it's bearing and shaft, but you must also arrange a free-fall oil drop tube back into the crankcase. In SOME engines there is a nice tapped hole with a plug in it on the left side of the block just for this job. If your engine was a N/A diesel, I don't think the hole is drilled and tapped, so you would have to do that. At the very least you would need to take off the sump to be able to catch the drill swarf. Funnily enough, my 2.5 petrol engine had the hole drilled and tapped and plugged!

Fitting a turbo to a N/A without also fitting the fuel injection pump for a turbo engine will not raise the performance much, if any. It might do a mile a gallon more on fuel, but that would be all you could expect.

Is it worth the effort?

In the same vein, if you took the turbo OFF a 19J engine, would that make it less prone to self destruction at the expense of a bit of "power" loss? I've been wondering for a while and never got round to asking...
 
Yes it would, and it would run perfectly well, but well down on power.

It would probably run more or less as well as a 2.5 N/A, but it might be a bit smoky on full throttle till the revs built up.

Why bother though? Why not leave it alone and drive carefully?

Use good engine oil too.
I use Tractor Universal made by OVOLINE.
I buy it in a 210 litre oil drum, and it costs less than diesel!

I think I paid £155 for 210 litres.


It is a super quality oil, and at the price you can afford to change it more often.

Clean oil helps engines live longer.
