Hi all I have recently won a defender 200tdi conversion kit on ebay and now after reading alot of threads and mags I am a little worried. The seller was spot on as he runs a landy breaking business but the doubts are still there.

Is there any place to check stolen engine no's? I have tried a couple of hpi check companies but with no luck. I have filled out the change on my V5 and just sent it off so will see if that comes back ok.

It seems strange to me that all major parts on landys engins, axles etc are all stamped but with the vast amount of thefts there seems to be no easy way to check if the part you are buying is someone elses pride and joy.

if it's a reputable business thens there's a fair chance it'll be ok - would they want to risk their business dealing in stolen

if it's from a bloke in the pub that's a bit different

You could ask the seller for a copy of the V5 for the vehicle it came from?

If you contact DVLA or the police and it does turn out to be stolen then you will end up out of pocket when they confiscate the engine.
I would just not bother and fit it.
