as the title says guys how strong is the roof of a disco. as many of you know i've had some transfer issues and now have managed to get a replacement. but here's where the roof things comes into it. everyone has said use a hoist to take out the old and put in the new (im removing gearbox and transfer and replacing both)

but the only engine hoist i can get my hands on is a frame and chain lift that wont come down low enough to go through the car. so my thought was can i put a strap over the roof in through the windows and put a chain lift onto that and do it.

before everyone shouts at me for how many ways this is wrong take into account i have done NOTHING yet i am only asking to try and come up with some options.

as always thanks for the replies in advance.

Can you drop it down and jack the motor up
im lost, the job im trying to do is drop down and remove the gearbox/transfer box thats in there and replace it with another unit. figured it was lifting the gearbox and transfer back in place that would be an issue not the motor!

Sorry just realised this is the disco thread not the fender one...

I guess your leaving the engine in, I always find it easier with it out when I don't have a lift.
With bonnet off you could use your chain fill on the bell housing and a jack at the back.

Fail g that can you rent an engine crane or rig some scaffold through the car and drop it on a chain fall

new update managed to get my hands on a hoist WOOOP WOOOOOOP lol will be attempting the job tomorrow i'll try get a load of pics and post after it on how it went but i cant promise i'll stick to the photos as im doing the job will depend on the time taken stress levels hit haha
