Hi all, i have a Disco 1 300Tdi on an M plate (95), it has covered 188,000 miles and i recently spent £1250 having the brakes overhauled, runs well but has developed some noise from the transmission which i've yet to identify, the MOT runs out in November but to be honest i'm thinking of moving it on as i can't afford to shell out if there's major work needed to sort the transmission, any idea what a realistically achievable value would be?, cheers in advance.

Now that the snow appears to have gone, my estimate would be somewhere in the region of £750-950.

brake it for parts. Thats what i'm doing with my 300. she shall never see another test centre again

:wtf: spent £1250 having the brakes overhauled :wtf:

you could of bought another disco for that

yeah i know, being useless on the spanners i didn't feel confident to do the work myself and to be honest wasn't expecting such a huge bill, maybe a few hundred but was told all four calipers/discs/pads needed replacing plus a few other bits and pieces-hadn't realised that calipers were so expensive (or that i was being ripped off).

you were ripped off pal. rear calipers new are around £35 each, and again around £40 each for the fronts. around £60-£100 for front and rear pads and disc's. Time to learn the spanners pal if you do keep the old girl

I'd love to keep her but i can just see that it's going to be one thing after another and i simply don't have the money anymore, oh well the joys of owning a LR eh! lol

I bet you're gutted to get rid, but whoever did your brake's was taking the **** big time.

I, unlike most member's on her am not totally confident in doing some job's and get my local indy to do them ... but I alway's ask the regular's on here for advice on what the problem is beforehand. That way I am pre-armed with info so that I won't get ripped off... just a heads up for the future;)

Christ 1250 quid for brakes, I just replaced all discs and pads with brand new calipers, flexi's and hard pipe for 215 quid!!!!!!
You've been had matey.

Disco is probably worth around 600 - 800 quid btw............:D

Oh yeah, done up like the proverbial Kipper for sure, i'm tempted to name and shame the Indy that did it to prevent any other LR owners befalling the same fate but with my luck they read this forum and would do me for slander or something.
I did seek advice on here beforehand and the general feeling was that the discs needed replacing hence why i thought the bill would be not too bad but hey it's done and so have i been lol, i won't make the same mistake twice, cheers for replies guys.

Have you got a copy of the bill? Can you photocopy it showing part's and labour (minus the indy's details) and post it? I know it's a tad late for you now, but it could provide an insight for other member's for what to avoid if they use a garage.

Tell us the name of the garage. They shouldn't be allowed to get away with that kind of blatant over charging. Always get a price for the work first.
