Hi All,

My 1999 4.6 p38 1999 has 120,000 miles on the clock and it is still in fantastic looking condition, i have owned it since 16,000 miles It has been a good car with only a few major problems, no EAS problems or head gasket yet, much less than you see on here. My question is has anyone got one with high mileage and what sort of life can I expect from these engines. I was thinking that maybe i should sell while it is still a good one but just love the look of this car. Bye the way i am doing a fuel consumption test on it at the moment and it looks like i am doing what the computer says between 19 and 22 to the gallon, i do live in the country so no town driving involved, i thought this was very good for the somthing the size of a bus.

If you're happy with it and not had any major problems why change it for an unknown vehicle that could cost you a fortune.

Work out how much you would spend on the newer vehicle and invest some in TLC on your trusted and reliable friend.

I can't see why you shouldn't see another 100,000 on the clock.

We only hear of the problem vehicles, there must be loads of vehicles like yours that have given long service with only a few if any problems, personally I'd prefer to keep a vehicle I know and trust.

I've purchased vehicles then spent hundereds on parts sorting them out and I done all my own work to date.

I have a 1997 4.6 which is just coming up to 151,000 miles, still on original engine and so far, only failure has been the water pump. Regular oil changes and good quality anti freeze and flush every few years seems to keep mine running as it should. I have replaced all 4 air springs as mine were looking tired, I have also had to replace both front door latches as they failed too. I plan to rebush the whole vehicle this winter and to replace both track rod ends as I assume these must be worn by now. All in all it has been a reliable vehicle needing little maintenance other than general servicing, and yes, I use it every day for work and it has never let me down :)
