I have a 2.25 petrol block, how can I tell if the cranks got 3 or 5 burrins.

Edit: oh yeah, without taking the sump off or the engine apart.
 
LOOK at the side of the engine under the manifold if its smooth -3bearing........... if its ribbed -5bearing ..simples my friend ,,hope this helps,,,,,dave
 
If you can see the original engine block colour 3 bearing are a pale bluey/greeny colour, 5 bearing are brown,
 
Well actually it turned out to be a 3 burrin, from the lack of reinforcing webs andthe engine number.
I've now sold it, he whole engine with all the ancilliaries for £110, I hope that I havent diddled myself or the bloke that bought it.
It was a good runner so the bloke who bought it didnt get a bad deal.
