so what is it that wur on yer hands but is no longer on yer hands but instead is now on yer steering wheel and that would like to be no longer on yer steering wheel?

The stuff coming off on your hands is accumulated dirt and sweat. I've found the best cure to be baby wet wipes which seem to shift anything followed by a cloth to dry off afterwards

Leathercare renovations (Google email address for number as per other post) do an excellent leather cleaner that removes most deposits. Use a toothbrush in a circular motion for best effect.
Modern leather is dyed and then lacquered to seal in the colour. If you have scrubbed through the lacquer you will start to remove the dye and this looks like marks but is simply the base leather colour. If this happens you can order some more leather dye, colour it and then lacquer it again. Its a bit of a fiddle but patience gives a factory new apearance. The kits are around £20 with all the required materials. On a steering wheel aplication is best by air brush for consistency of colour.
