Vapour lock in pipe? Apparently the newer type of fuel evaporates more easily and can cause vapour locks in the fuel pipe where it gets close to the hot bits of the engine. Try re routing the fuel pipe.

Yup, I also fitted a return to tank (easy enough as there is a hole for a second pick up pipe in my tank).

I fitted the return as rerouting the pipe had helped. But after fitting a rad-muff the problems started to reappear. The return needs to be made from a T piece with the return VERY restricted otherwise you'll find you get fuel starvation when you rag it up hills. I made one out of a piece of steel fuel pipe T from a TR7 I nipped the return up until I could just blow slowly with a fair bit of effort down the return. That seems to be enough to let the vapour return to tank and condense and get out of the way of the liquid that you want.

Just done 1500 miles of motorway driving (lots of restarts after filling!) and problems are all sorted, but wallet is looking a bit anemic!

I'm now thinking of fitting an electric pump too - not sure what I should do about a safety / priming circuit. I'd like something that will prime for 5 seconds, prime whilst cranking but cut out if the oil pressure light comes on for more than a second. Last for saftey to sop fuel tipping out of carbs if I roll it and engine stops....any ideas if there is a pre-built solution or am I going to have to get a whole bucket load of relays?
