Yes, yes, yes, I have searched hi and low for a diagnosis---or even similar symptoms for my LT77 "issue"! Please help fellas!

- Upon shifting to 3rd gear last week, I heard a "funny" noise

- As I began to slow/coast into my parking spot, a loud CLICK/KNOCK was heard from my gearbox area...

- When I left work, the gearbox was now WHINING and the CLICK/KNOCK persists ONLY when in gear, and when coasting/overrun.

I installed a new front propshaft yesterday---no change. Under power---no clicking.....whilst coasting: clicking. It's loud---every gear and speed combination and it's synced to the speed of the propshafts.

Any ideas? I'm leaning towards worn output shaft splines....but why would i still hear the whine? And why the knocking only when coasting in gear? THANK YOU!

the gears in t/box and gear box have helical teeth , when you apply power gears want to push to one end of box (which if bearings are good and set correctly they cant move ) when you lift off and coast power is reversed so gears have a push to the other end of box( if theres play in bearings they will move ,a chipped tooth can also present in the same way noise wise , main shaft and input shaft wear doesnt produce any whine just a clunk when changing gear or lifting off quick, check condition of oil in both boxes, check front diff flange for play or try with front prop off in diff lock, you can remove t/box sump plate and check for any endfloat in gears ,without more info its hard to narrow it down

Renewed transfer case and gearbox oil---no change....

BUT--took it up to speed and guess what....no noise/whine/clunk in 4th gear! That helps me isolate a ton! Looking at layshaft gear/bearing??

yes as theres no torque running through lay shaft when in 4th, was there not any sign of metal in the oil ie filings or a sheen
