51 plate td4 horn not working checked fuse ok. Horn sounds when central locking used with door not closed properly. But nothing when horn button on steering wheel...
Please help in for MOT on the 18th

It's most likely going to be the clock spring (rotary coupler) under the steering wheel. The horn circuit is obviously working which only leaves the clock spring or the wheel buttons, which are unlikely.

take the middle section of your steering wheel screws are underneath and with the wheel strait and the wheel strait forward look at the rotary coupler there is a oblong hole in it is this filled with a white square if not someone has put it on wrong and you will need another one as the ribbon cable has broke and this feeds you wires off the steering wheel onto the steering column, hope this helps

I did this job on mine last weekend. The symptoms were exactly the same as yours.

I got one with the part number XRC100390 from ebay for £23 posted.

Care needs to be taken because the first step is removal of the airbag on the steering wheel. The advice in Haynes and from the Land Rover specialist is to leave it 30 mins after disconnecting the battery before removal.

The rotary coupler will do 2 1/4 turns either way from the central position so set it central before refitting. You need to know this if you bought a 2nd hand one like I did.

Lastly check you have free steering lock to lock after you put everything back together but before you drive off.

It was quite simple job in the end.

This how-to is the same for the Freelander.

Hi bandit127
I can only find yrc100300 would you know if this is compatable?

No, I don't know if the MG YRC100300 is compatible - the airbag plug looks different on the ones I just looked at.

Putting XRC100390 in to eBay search gives me a good choice with quite a few at £35 to £40.
