I have a 53 plate TD4 freelander and have only recently got it. On my under bonnet inspection to get familiar with it I noticed there is a small hole (about 0.8cm across) in the right hand side of the airbox, when the engine is running there is air blowing out it, not at a high pressure.

Is this a normal hole!!, or should something be in it or connected into it??

Sorry, to stop any confusion I meant the airfilter housing box

Not sure but my guess is that the previous owner had a kind of mafam box in combination with a Pierburg maf. On the original Bosch maf there is an air temperature sensor but on the Pierburg there isn't, so if a mafam is installed with a Pierburg, this mafam has an external airtemperature sensor connected (on an 30 cm or so cable) and probably that went into that hole your box has. Can be wrong of course but that's how I see it.

No, mine hasn't got such an hole. Just put some duct tape on it?

that'll do for me!!! Just doesn't seem right to have it there, it is on the nearside side of the airboxx just to clarify?

Sorry but don't kn ow what the nearside is, when you're in front of the car, looking towards the car, is it at the left (cooling water bottle side) or right hand side (battery side)??

Sorry, you already mentioned that in your opening post, right hand side. I'd just put some duct tape on it (if possible from the inside since the wind blows 'out' of the hole). Good luck.

are you sure its blowing ? would think it should be sucking

however dont worry as its before the air filter side so makes no difference ,

Check the airfilter is clean as if not, the pulsed air can't get through it fast and freely enough and it could make it blow ??
