Hi from sunny Spain, I recently decided to get a 4x4, and narrowed things down to to Disco or Defender 300Tdi. Mainly for simple DIY maintenance, lots of on-line support, and cheap spares prices.

My preference is for a Defender, but they are pretty scarce round here. However I have found a 110 TD5 (2000), it's a very good price, but a non-runner. It's also 310000 km's (about 190K miles), so it's been well used! The TD5 isn't my 1st choice, but I'm happy to compromise on this/

The seller thinks it's a fuel pump problem, but I'm a little sceptical, and am willing to swap out the engine if it's seriously damaged. Of course, being a non runner makes it impossible to test other stuff (like the gearbox).

So, bearing all this in mind, I'd welcome any suggestions/advice on this prospective purchase. At nearly 200K miles, what is likely to need serious work?
