Hi everyone. I last posted when I had a Disco. That gave up the ghost and I got a 2001 Freeander Diesel Auto, great car and 18 months trouble free motoring, but!
Coming home yesterday with caravan on back, the hill descent and TC lights came on. Just those 2.
Everything seemed ok till a nice white van man pointed out we had no brake lights. When checked, fuse had gone which also resulted in no rev lights.
I've just changed the fuse and the 2 warning lighs went out!
A little run down the road and the fuse blew and lights came back on while taking a right hand bend.
Any ideas please?

only havin a laff, have a freelander too if you dont you would cry,i,m sure serious solutions will follow in due course.

First thing I would do is disconnect the caravan plug and see if still blows fuses at least you'll know if it's the caravan electrics or the Freelanders electrics at fault.

Thanks lads, I did that first Windy, sorry I should have mentioned it.
I'm going to take the front wheels off this morning, as just before it happened, we washed the caravan and blasted under the wheel arches with the jet hose, maybe i've loosened some connector, as it only happens on a tightish lock.
I said when I got rid of the Disco it was my last! but hey, when they're ok, you can't beat them
Cheers.

These sorts of problems have been covered many times before, so if you do a search you will find plenty of related topics.

ABS sensors and brake switch are two likely causes, but have a good search and see what you think.

Cheers Blippie, I did that first, but everything led to the '3 amigo's' syndrom!
I have nothing like that.
Been out this morning and narrowed it down to a left hand lock causing the fuse to blow. Took both front wheels of anyway, checked the wiring both sides and it was sound. Sprayed the whole lot with WD40, replaced the fuse and all seems ok.
Time will tell!....thanks for the suggestions all.

I have just had the same 2 lights come on on my freelander but I have no towbar fitted, just wondering where to start to rectify the problem?

Just searched the forums and the popular answer to this is a faulty brake light switch, so just need to check it out.

OK, quick update, the plunger on the brake light switch is stuck in and will not free up, so will need a new switch ASAP. Hopefully this will then rectify the problem.

Cheers Para. All my lights are working and no warning lights on the dash, so fingers crossed, it's sorted!
Did you lose your reversing lights?

Didn`t lose my reversing lights, they were ok. Just bodged the brake light switch enough for it to work, seems to have done the trick, will pick up a new switch first thing monday.

Just got a new brake light switch from a dealer, Land Rover have upgraded the switch to a much heavier duty design, also an adapter wire is needed as the new switch has a different connector type than the original, part numbers are;
LXKB500120 Switch Assembly @ £7.76
LYMQ503280 Wire Assembly @ £9.45

Good to hear Para. My fault developed on a straight road yesterday, so left hand lock had nowt to do with it!......:)
Took the Hill Decent switch out, cleaned the contacts and the 2 dash warning lights went out!
I've still got a pocket of 15amp fuses though, just in case.

Good job there was no rush!......lol
Water in the trailer plug and the whole thing was corroded.....Hence the fuse blowing problem.
Thanks for the replies.

Having read through this post can I ask
Where is the Hill descent switch located, also where is the brake light switch.
You’ll have gathered I have the downhill light on. By coincidence I also had a rear brake light bulb out. Changing it, the downhill light is still on so I’ll look at the other two points mentioned here is I can find the switches.
Thanks in advance

EDIT.....Have found the brake light switch, just need Hill descent one now thanks

Thank you Nodge. It’s a freelancer 1 petrol 1998 and has had propshaft removed. I think the hill descent switch is in the gearstick, just reading up on it now. Looks like one of my jobs for tomorrow....plus passenger side window not working lol.

Burn it ( it’s not a public holiday so normal rules apply)
Petrol K series and prop removed= ****box.

My sympathies, did Stevie wonder help you buy it?
